Young 27 Boat Review

Let's take a closer look at the Young 27 in this boat review.

The Young 27 is a prime example of how you can build a boat in multiple configurations, each with its own personality.

Young Boats is a custom shop that only builds boats to order- dealing directly with the buyer for a complete custom build experience. The Young 27 is a prime example of how you can build a boat in multiple configurations, each with its own personality.

On this version of the 27 the open cockpit provides plenty of room to manage an offshore spread while featuring a closed gunwale design with three live wells spanning the width of the transom- one in each corner at 25-gallons each, with a larger 40-gallon release well in the center. A pair of large insulated fish holds to port and starboard are located below deck and a center positioned access point into the bilge includes a lift out storage liner that reveals easy access to pumps and fittings for maintenance. A tackle storage and rigging station occupies the rear of the helm seating station to complete the workspace.

This model included a full sized hard-top that provided abundant shade and a secondary observation platform. Access to the upper level is easy up a rear positioned ladder that eliminates the need to snake your way through a hatch in the hardtop deck. A cool addition to the top is a recessed pocket- molded into the front to accommodate a curved Lumitec Razor light bar.

The helm on the Young 27 was equipped with a pair of Simrad units in an easily viewable recessed face. The electronics display included a lockable and removable door panel that keeps electronics out of sight when not in use and stores away neatly while underway. The console interior also provides plenty of room for dry storage and a marine head. Forward seating offers a place for your guests to relax and creates additional dry storage within its interior.

A noteworthy fact about the Young 27 is that despite an advertised draft of 17-inches- I've personally had these boats in water seeming impossibly shallow and was still able to run on motor without disturbing the bottom. While it may be 17- inches under the boat the 27 is still capable of navigating carefully in this depth which is handy more often than you think should you find yourself fishing inshore.
