Jim Bagley, founder and original president of Bagley's Better Baits that originated in Winter Haven, Fla., was encouraged to write a book about his life and business by his wife Vera. He started the book shortly before his death during the 50th anniversary year of his company, and his wife Vera has completed the book. It is titled Bagley Tale: More Than a Fish Story , and is now available on CreateSpace and will soon be available on Amazon.
A book signing will be held at the Antique Tackle Show at Bartow Civic Center in Bartow, Fla., on June 16 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for the public. A signing for members will be held the day before.
A memoriam is given in the book by Homer Circle, angling editor of Sports Afield magazine, former president of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, and former prominent television host, affectionately called “Uncle Homer.” Former employees contribute stories about life at the business and the origin of the business. Friends contribute funny stories and stories of Bagley's creative mind. Learn about times with golfers Johnny Miller and Andy Bean. Oh and who could forget the story of the trip to the White House to visit George H. W. Bush, Sr. himself.
Deserted by his father at just two years old, Bagley was motivated by his mom to achieve greatness. He never let life get him down as he endured hardship, pain of war and family challenges. Enjoy stories of fun times with buddies and celebrities, stories of adventure, great love of country and the South. You'll laugh as you learn of the humorous side of this great leader and master salesman in the bait business.
Vera is grateful to the many friends that have contributed to this book. Get a book for yourself or someone you love this Father's Day.
