"Looks like a good year for armadillo fish," quipped Capt. Ron Kowalyk by e-mail this week, sending the attached photograph of his friend Skip Messinger with a tripletail off Southwest Florida.
Florida Sportsman's online 4Caster and a Fort Myers fishing guide, Kowalyk is an inventive fly tyer, artist and frequent contributor to the print edition of Florida Sportsman Magazine.
"This was our first of the season tripletail," said Kowalyk. "It took a Rootbeer Icicle Shrimp. We went 6 for 7 on shrimp and fly. All smalls so far; there'll be more pots out soon. My favorite!"
Minimum size on tripletail is 15 inches total length. Bag limit is 2 per person. They are great eating.
