Boat Review - Sundance DX22 HPX

Boat Review - Sundance DX22 HPX
The Sundance DX22 HPX is clearly one of the more stylish utility skiffs on the market.

Sundance Boats offers a complete line of “Utility Skiffs” ranging from 16-22' in length with a wide range of finished features. The Sundance DX22 HPX is clearly their Flagship model. When most people think about a skiff in this class, they imagine a basic finish interior with work boat roots. This model steps up to the plate with a bit more attitude. Sundance DX Skiffs are the premium version of their fleet with a full liner and a much more polished interior. The liner features a high quality molded non-skid finish on all walking surfaces. The DX utilizes a similar deck layout as the CCR series, while adding more comfort to the design. The forward companion seats, front console seat and helm cooler seat/backrest all feature thick comfortable padding. A Swing Back/Cooler Helm Seat is standard. Matching Over-Sized aft flip-up jump seats are also very comfortable and as large as I've ever seen on a boat in this size class. The DX22 offers storage options forward, beneath the casting deck as well as an added anchor locker. More storage is found under the forward companion seats as well as inside the console. There is an insulated live bait well under the forward seat that can double as a drink cooler along with a larger live bait well in the center deck/aft which features a clear lid to more easily monitor the condition of your live bait supply. Other extra touches that kick this model up a notch above others in the Sundance family are Molded Wells/Dry Storage, Molded Swim Platform w/ Ladder, Hydraulic Steering, Stainless Thru-Hull fittings as well as Flush Mounted Stainless Cleats and Rod Holders. One thing that stood out to me about this boat was the ride. While this type of hull design is not typically thought of as an “Easy Riding” hull, I was able to run her around in some very windy conditions and stay remarkably dry. Overall, the DX22 HPX still offers all of the No Nonsense functionality of the other Sundance models and remains a solid “Utility Platform” however if those features are important to you but your taste demands a bit more style and finish work in a boat, this may be a boat for you.
