In this FS Seminar, Florida Sportsman Reel Time host Capt. George Gozdz gives some helpful advice on spooling spinning or conventional reels with braided lines. Spooling your reel correctly will lead to less tangles and more fish in the box!

To begin, place the spool of braid on a screwdriver shaft and place in a 5 gallon bucket, filled slightly with water, so the spool sits about halfway in the water. Place the braided line through all the guides on the rod and secure to the spool with your knot of choice, shown here, an improved clinch knot. Be sure to keep good tension on the line when spooling, packing the braid on tightly. Fill the spool until the line appears to be about 1/4 inch away from the edge of the spool, or, if your reel has an indicator line, use accordingly.
