Boat Review - Sea Born FX 21 Bay

One of the hottest selling style of boats for 2017-18 continues to be the Bay Boat class. It seems like everyone is building one and due to demand from consumers, some of them are reaching into the stratosphere both for included features and in the finished cost. It might be hard for some to imagine and (completely out of reach for as many more) spending a six figure total cost on a skiff, yet they are out there and selling like crazy.

If a bay boat is what your style of fishing requires you to fish from and you are looking to spend less money than what an Italian sports car might fetch, the Sea Born FX21 might be the answer. What you are paying for with this model is essentially the "Fleet Truck" equivalent of other more expensive boats. The FX-21 features the same classic raised casting deck (both forward and aft) with center console helm, shallow draft capabilities, and easy fish ability found on Bay Boats in general. Among the list of included features on the FX21 are two live wells, one beneath the rear casting deck and a second under the forward console seat. Two forward lockers under the bow casting deck to port and starboard feature rod storage racks. A center hatch forward offers additional gear storage and an anchor and rope locker is also standard. Other practical amenities include a leaning post with under seating storage, a drink cooler below the seat and four rod holders behind the seat. Six additional flush mounted rod holders are mounted on the console sides. Matching fold up Jump Seats aft, Hydraulic steering, all Stainless hardware and accessories throughout including through-hull fittings, a pre-wired trolling motor harness and plugs are all standard as well. A high efficiency planing pad on the 17-degree deadrise hull provided a remarkably soft ride on our test days.

The Sea Born FX21-Bay is a fully capable, easy fishing, very nice riding Bay Boat that offers the performance characteristics of many boats priced much higher in an economical package within reach for the working man who doesn't need unnecessary frills.
