Salt Marsh 1656V

From the coastal marshes of the Carolinas to the Gulf of Mexico, this model from Salt Marsh is really catching on. The concept of taking a Jon Boat/Mud Boat hull style which are very popular for fresh water fishing and marsh sports such as duck hunting or gator hunting, and building it out of Kevlar reinforced glass is an obvious winner. This makes the classic designed hull much more practical for use in salt water. For shallow water fishing the 1656 offers a lot to love beyond Flats Boat features with a Jon Boat price tag. A lightweight and extremely durable hull is made possible with the use of Kevlar construction. The 280-pound (dry weight) hull will float in 6” of water and poles easily in redfish skinny backwater while offering stability due to her 72” beam. Set up as a side console remote steered boat you have plenty of work space on the center deck along with a roomy forward casting deck which is also wide and stable. A large forward storage compartment is roomy enough to carry plenty of gear/tackle and safety equipment and keep your things out of the weather. Additionally, you'll find two rear storage spaces under the seating, one of which can be plumbed for use as a large live baitwell. The wide poling platform is a large enough surface to offer stability and room to move your feet around safely when lots of turning is called for on the pole. This boat has been wildly popular for anglers making the step up from kayak/paddleboard/canoe fishing. What originally seems like a transition boat from paddle craft to flats boat without the price tag of a high dollar poling skiff, turns into a boat that meets all of your needs, and one that a working angler can afford.
