Now is the perfect time to study online for the Florida Boater Safety ID Card. The card is required for anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, who will be operating a boat in Florida waters with an engine of ten (10) horsepower or more. All you do is complete an approved boating safety course, let FWC know you've done so, and they'll send you the card (some of the courses automatically request FWC to send you the card).

For a list of approved courses, go to MyFWC's Boating Safety pages.
And by the way, Cap: Those boater safety courses are a great resource for everyone—even old salts. Let's all take a few hours some time in the coming weeks to freshen up our knowledge of required safety gear, rules of the road, safe operation and other vital subjects.
