Old Town Predator XL Minn Kota
A lightweight tandem trailer easily hauls a pair of these boats behind any vehicle.

Kayak fishing has never been more popular than it is today. With the advancement in kayak designs, paddle craft have evolved into something much more sophisticated than we ever imagined possible. Creative minds with fresh ideas are taking the modern kayak to places formerly limited to larger power craft and fishing effectively from the furthest backwater reaches to the Gulfstream offshore. At the leading edge of the revolution has been Old Town Canoe Company. This Maine institution built their first kayak in 1940 and brought the first roto-molded boat to market so you might say they know a thing or two about building paddle craft.

The Predator MK represents an innovation that allows paddlers to go further than ever before while requiring much less effort to do so. If you've ever done any significant amount of canoe or kayak paddling, you are no doubt familiar with the concept of only paddling half as far from your launch point as you care to paddle. The obvious fact that you'll have to repeat the effort to return to your starting point. The MK incorporates the use of a removable 45# thrust Minn Kota motor console which drops into the center of the boat providing a powerful, quiet, saltwater grade power source with forward and reverse shifting, and variable speed control. The control head features a single 12V battery power source which is equipped with a digital maximizer for all day motoring along with an LED charge indicator to assure you never get caught by surprise with a dead battery. The Predator is steered via an aluminum retractable rudder which is controlled by foot pedals for easy steering. This is a lightweight (117-pound w/motor) craft that can be launched virtually anywhere with ease. With a maximum load capacity of 600# you can easily attach any number of accessories from rod holders to electronics, haul plenty of tackle, coolers, an anchor etc. without overloading the boat. The Predator is stable enough to easily fish securely from a standing position as well. For somebody with the desire to rig the most tricked-out kayak on the water they can build and let the boat do the work for part of the day, the Predator MK is not one to overlook.
