Important meeting this Thursday night (Jan. 5) in Lecanto, Florida. The South West Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) is presenting hunting proposals for the Lake Panasoffkee (Non-Wildlife Management Area), Halpata Tastanaki Preserve, Chassahowitzka River and Coastal Swamps and Weekiwachee Preserve properties. The public will be able to review proposals and comment. Governing Board and Advisory Committee members may attend.
“We should all know by now we sportsmen do not get what is right or what is promised, we get only what we fight tooth and nail for,” said Lyle McCandless, President of the Big Cypress Sportsmans Alliance. “Our objective at this meeting is to get more hunting on more SWFWMD properties. At an FWC meeting in the Panhandle last year I heard a top WMD official state that hunting was allowed on 85 percent of WMD properties in NW Florida. I understand hunting is allowed on about 25 percent of WMD properties in SW Florida, what's wrong with this picture?”
