In the February 2019 print edition of Florida Sportsman, Capt. Mike Conner contrasts the “old ways” of backcountry navigation with modern technology (“Show Me the Way,” page 42). Conner, a writer and fishing guide in Stuart, FL, takes us back to the days, in the 1960s and ‘70s, when Herman Lucerne pioneered the labyrinthine fishing grounds of Hells Bay, in Everglades National Park.
