With meterological spring arriving on the calendar as March begins, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced that two species will open to recreational harvest this month.

The first is Gulf Gray triggerfish, which opens in Gulf state and federal waters.

Incidentallly, if anglers plan to fish for Gulf gray triggerfish in state or federal waters from a private recreational vessel, they must sign up as a State Reef Fish Angler (which requires an annual renewal). To learn more, visit MyFWC.com/Marine and click on “Recreational Regulations” and “State Reef Fish Survey” under “Reef Fish.” Sign up today at GoOutdoorsFlorida.com.

Recreational harvest also reopened on March 1 for spotted seatrout in the Western Panhandle Management Region, which includes all state and adjacent federal waters from Escambia County through the portion of Gulf County west of 85 degrees, 13.76 minutes west longitude.
