The Florida Sportsman Expo, scheduled for the Lee Civic Center in Fort Myers March 14-15, is canceled.
Expo staff decided to cancel the event as a cautionary measure in light of evolving advice related to minimizing person-to-person transmission of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
“While we're sad to miss this chance to meet our readers and swap fishing stories, given the uncertainties, we felt this was the responsible decision,” said Florida Sportsman Publisher Blair Wickstrom.
Wickstrom notes that many of the attractions at the Expo--including how-to demonstrations, local advice from captains, new boats and new product premieres--can be found on the Florida Sportsman Website, floridasportsman.com. In addition to daily news, the website has links to videos, articles, community forums and more.
Additionally, Wickstrom mentioned the new podcast series based on the popular Action Spotter department of the print magazine. Each Thursday, Capt. Rick Ryals networks live with field reporters around the state, to get information on what's biting and where. “Marine forecasts indicate light winds this weekend,” said Ryals, a longstanding instructor at the Expo series. “We'll all get together again soon—but until then, let's be safe, sensible, and maybe do a little extra fishing!”
