A pontoon boat that will be used primarily in a saltwater environment benefits from features such as a fiberglass covered deck, an aluminum skinned underside and large 28.5-inch diameter pontoons. The harsh Florida sun would quickly take its toll on a carpeted deck whereas fiberglass and gelcoat will stand up better to UV rays and the abuse of fishing. A perimeter fence constructed out of foam core with a double-sided aluminum skin is strong and will absorb bumps from docks and pilings. Gates on both the port and starboard sides makes getting on and off of the boat, at the dock, much easier. A stern-mounted tow bar is a must if the kids want to be pulled on a tube or wakeboard. Extra large diameter pontoons let the boat cross a rough bay without the waves hitting the underside of the deck.
