The Dusky 218 RL outrides flat bottom skiffs in a heavy chop. If you want to fish the inlet, or even light offshore on a nice day, choose a hull with more of a V. You may give up a few inches of draft, when compared to a flat bottom boat, but you will gain the ability to run more comfortable when conditions turn rough. Also this style of a semi- deep V will carry a higher horsepower rating in the event top end speed is a concern. The blend of a molded fiberglass inner liner glassed to a rolled edge hull design gives you the maximum amount of usable cockpit space. To further add to the deck space is the use of an outboard motor bracket. A bracket puts the engine behind the transom so the motor doesn't encroach into the cockpit and the added flotation, from the displacement of the bracket, lessens the draft of the boat. Positioning the outboard further off of the transom enhances the performance of the boat and allows you to mount the motor higher off of the water.
