Black crappie is one of Florida's favorite freshwater gamefish. Although a feisty fighter, it is known for its white, fine-grained meat, which makes for excellent table quality.

Luckily no one has to miss out on their great flavor, as they can be caught statewide on many different baits and presentations. Some techniques, however, have proven themselves to produce more "slabs" than others. Big crappie will weigh in as much as 4 pounds, that adds up quick when your catching in good numbers.
