After just a couple of years within the marketplace, the new face of Blackfin Boats is making a lasting impression. As part of a larger entity with a long history of boatbuilding, this company is utilizing a team of engineers and designers with no shortage of boatbuilding experience under their belt. As the Blackfin product line expands upward and outward, the marine industry is taking notice; recently honoring Blackfin with the 2019 “Innovation Award” for their new 332 CC at the Miami International Boat Show. Our test day aboard the 332 CC offered a glimpse at some of the features it took to garner such recognition. Most notable was the careful planning that clearly went into the division of creature comforts and sport utility fishing layout. This is a very stylish top-tier finished boat with over engineered, bulletproof hardware and a classy esthetic.
The no-nonsense functionality of this fishing platform from the twin clear faced live wells, a 35-gallon transom well as well as a 20-gallon auxiliary well under the tackle center; matching 400-quart insulated below deck cockpit fish holds with macerator pump outs, Gemlux Carbon Fiber outriggers, and dual 16” Garmin MFD units offers a tactical advantage for serious anglers.
For creature comforts that invite you to relax at every turn, the 332 CC offers a forward picnic area that includes ultra-thick padded seats and high backrests that frame what might be the roomiest and most comfortable dining area in its class that we've tested. At the forward console face, a plush double-width queen lounge provides the perfect place to recline after lunch. A super easy to deploy bow shade canopy sets up in seconds and provides the kind of relief from the sun that makes a relaxing lunch on deck immensely more enjoyable.
The engineers at Blackfin clearly take great pride in their work and evidence to support this is clear in their internally designed hardware such as a Pantographic door opening into the console. Although this is touted as a clever design that allows unobstructed passage alongside the console with the door open, much more impressive to me was the sturdiness and beautiful finish of this piece of hardware; in fact this quality construction from hinges to deck latches and trim is located throughout the 332 CC. Rugged and durable design elements extend into the laminates as well; from the two-tone counter shaded hard top featuring a flip-up rear access hatch to get you topside, all the way into the bilge compartments where a Core Rigid Technology molded stringer grid and hull integrated Sea Chest to supply raw water to your bait and washdown pumps are located.
A dual-purpose cockpit tackle center with twin sinks, tackle storage compartments and matching slide out Yeti coolers quickly converts from a bait rigging center to a galley prep surface. Secure rod storage is available to port and starboard under the gunwales simply via the addition of a lockable hinged door over twin rod racks. Additional gear storage is located throughout the boat from beneath the companion forward seats and sun lounge to the roomy console interior offering over 6-feet of headroom along with a full electric head with shower sprayer and sink.
After mixing our time evenly between a productive morning dropping live baits onto nearshore wrecks followed by some light cruising and lunch conversation at the local raft-up spot; we left the boat all having thoroughly enjoyed a full day of mixed-use activities but also each with the notion that there was so much more to discover aboard this classy mid-sized center console. Whether you are in the market for a versatile day boat for light exploring on your local waters or a rigged up extended range platform for excursions abroad, the Blackfin 332 CC will get you there in style.
