Florida Oceanographic Society Fish Camp Promises Week of Learning, Fun

From Press Release/FWC

Teaching children a lifelong hobby, instilling appreciation for our marine environment and providing a fun weeklong experience are the objectives for a fish camp in Stuart this month.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will partner with the Florida Oceanographic Society to offer a weeklong fishing clinic for youth 12 to 14. The camp will be held at the Florida Oceanographic Society, 890 NE Ocean Blvd. in Stuart. The camp will run from July 15 to 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Advance registration is required by July 9. Contact Shannon Dack at 772-225-0505, ext. 118, for registration and fee information.

This camp enables young people to learn the basics of environmental stewardship, fishing ethics, angling skills and safety. In addition, students will get a unique chance to explore Florida's marine habitats and associated wildlife firsthand through activities such as seining, wade fishing and more.

FWC fish camps strive toward several goals, but the main objective is to create responsible marine resource stewards by teaching children about the vulnerability of Florida's marine ecosystems. In addition, organizers hope to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills and provide participants a positive fishing experience.
