Jackson Coosa FD Walkthrough: Feature Rich, Big-Boy Approved Pedal Kayak
Mike Carney, COO of Outdoor Sportsman Group, walks us through the Jackson Coosa FD, a proven hull design capable of handling the biggest waters thanks to its 12-foot, 7-inch length, and its 35-inch width provides great stability—sitting or standing. With a 450-pound capacity, this kayak can handle heavy loads and large users with ease, and still pedal efficiently.
IDEAL APPLICATION: Hands-free casting on lakes, rivers, saltwater estuaries and open ocean. Any fishing technique which demands copious volumes of gear and a stable, wave-taming hull with generous features for angler comfort and efficiency.
OVERVIEW: The forward hatch has a bin to keep stowable gear contained and a Hypalon belt on top to secure your paddle when it’s not needed. Hinges have been reinforced, too. Integrated gear tracks are located port and starboard, fore and aft. The rudder comes with the boat and there are controls for either left or right-hand operation. The High Ergo Seat Frame with Molle system offers all sorts of options for adding accessories at your workstation. A new pass-through system enables quick thru-wiring for installing a fishfinder, and like many kayaks in this size and feature range, the stern includes inserts for mounting a shallow water anchor or Torqeedo motor.
NOTABLE: The new Flex Drive Mark IV is smooth, quiet and powerful, and the awesome hi/lo sliding seat makes it easy to match wave and weather conditions, or when sight fishing and switching between sitting and standing. The new drive is also uniquely engineered to retract the propeller into the hull when beaching or when running over submerged obstacles. MSRP $3,759
