The time-tested McKee Craft hulls are available once again. Hunt James, of Aegis boats out North Carolina, bought up the hulls to produce his 17- to 28-foot unsinkable center consoles.

 

Andros Boatworks jumped into the super-shallow-water market with its Abaco Skiff series. The 16-footer is spacious and fuel efficient, rigged with a 60 horsepower Evinrude E-TEC.

 

The Carolina Skiff Elite SS has the characteristics of a deck, bay and offshore boat. Three boats in one! We tried this 23-footer on the water, outside of Sea Isle Marina.

 

Continental trailers got technical with its skiff trailers. Kelly Hays explains: “We shortened the carpeted bunks, while the length of the aluminum trailer remains.” Loading the boat and tying down straps just got easier.

 

Deep Impact boats made the jump from speed boat to fishing boat. Expect to see this 36-footer, captained by Fed Calderon and crew, on the SKA kingfish trails this year.

 

The Everglades 5 Series is new for 2011. Models include the 275 CC, 295 CC and 325 CC. All three were on display at the show, as well as the brand new console design.

 

The Auto Glide Boat Control System from Lenco Marine might be the most advanced trim tab system on the market. Features include automatic settings that help with take-off, fuel efficiency and stability.

 

The Sea Fox 226 Center Console made a splash at this year's boat show. Full bow seating, a console head and Yamaha 200 hp 4-stroke are just some of the options.

 

Widely popular in other parts of the world, Torqeedo keeps increasing horsepower on its battery and solar powered engines. Many European lakes are restricted to non-combustible engines, and Torqeedo feels these green engines will find a role in the Pole and Troll zones across Florida. The twin cruise outboards measure 15 horsepower, with enough juice to get this River Hawk skiff on plane.
