Books on fly tying are something of an anachronism in the digital age; Google many of the patterns in this new compendium, and you're likely to find reams of photos, free commentary and instruction from a range of sources. What this new book, from writer Angelo Peluso, offers is a comprehensive, one-stop source of inspiration and serendipitous discovery. In other words, you can't search for what you don't know exists. Flip through the pages and you'll be reminded of old favorite patterns, as well as new developments and utilitarian updates to standards. The book is 160 pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches. I don't have a formal count, but with three patterns per page, and at least 140 pages devoted to the subject, there are over 400 flies in here.
