Within the past week CCA Star tagged redfish number 14 and 15 have been caught. Unfortunately, both anglers who caught these fish were not registered with and were not eligible for the Hell's Bay Waterman giveaway. You never know if you will be the next one to catch a tagged fish. So, if you plan on fishing anytime soon, don't miss your opportunity at a free boat! 35 days remain in the tournament and 105 tagged redfish are still out there, waiting to be caught.
In our neighboring state of Louisiana, the Star tournament recently had a first. For the first time in CCA Louisiana STAR history, two prize-winning tagged redfish have been caught by kayak anglers. On Saturday, while fishing the Casting for Kids Tournament in Leeville, Baton Rouge angler David Torregrossa reeled in the second tagged redfish of the tournament.
The first tagged redfish of the tournament was caught on May 30, by Baton Rouge kayak angler Jonathan Craft who won a 2015 Chevy Silverado, courtesy of the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge, Acadiana and New Orleans.
Torregrossa, who had just renewed his STAR membership earlier in the week at Academy Sports + Outdoors, wins a 21' Nautic Star boat package complete with a 150hp Mercury Four-Stroke and Mike Gerald's McClain Trailer. His winning catch shows it's never too late to sign up for STAR.
"We have over six weeks of the tournament left and David's catch should be a lesson to everyone, that it's not to late to register," said STAR Tournament Director Rad Trascher.
This weekend is one of the busiest tournament weekends of the summer so anglers should be aware that there are 48 additional tagged redfish in Louisiana and 24 tagged redfish in Mississippi still swimming and plenty of prizes still up for grabs in all other categories including the tagged speckled trout division and the over 25 heaviest fish divisions for inshore and offshore species.
"You can fish STAR as well as the Faux Pas Lodge Invitational in Venice or the International Tarpon Rodeo in Grand Isle this weekend," said Trascher. "Torregrossa and Craft should prove to everyone that anyone can win in this tournament, you don't even need a bay boat!"
