Public Land Trifecta

How good is it to live in Florida? Just ask a hunter like FS Member fishsniper. On our hunting forum he posted a story and photos of what's surely one of the best conceivable days for an outdoorsman. Not only did he “break a slump” and make up for missing the opening of muzzleloading season, he harvested a 7-point buck and a plump meat hog within a one-hour period--on public land no less! To top it off, fishsniper filled his alligator tag with a beast of a specimen: 11 feet, 5 inches. A “Florida slammer,” as one FS Member put it.

Fishsniper's story tells not only of the enthusiasm of Sunshine State hunters, but also the terrific management efforts of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, or FWC, which works each year to open new lands to public hunting.
