New Gear Roundup: Boats, Power, Tackle and More
The Suzuki V6 200 comes in three different shaft lengths, 20-, 25- and 30-inch.

NEW BOATS AND POWER

Suzuki V6 200

Suzuki Marine, best known for its 4-stroke outboard motors, informed anglers and boaters to be ready for a more powerful hole shot, dramatic acceleration and maximum low-end torque. The popular brand is bringing back its Suzuki V6 200.

The outboard’s designers envision it as a perfect choice for heavier center consoles, pontoon boats or other watercraft that will benefit from the extra power built into the motor. The motor is more compact and lighter than the comparable previous model, so it fits better on transoms.

The company will still offer its in-line 4-cylinder 200 horsepower 4-stroke so boaters have other options for their vessel performance needs. The V6 however features an offset driveshaft and two-stage gear reduction enabling it to use a larger propeller.

The Suzuki V6 200 comes in three different shaft lengths, 20-, 25- and 30-inch. Entry price is $22,539 MSRP. To learn more or locate the nearest dealer, visit suzukimarine.com or call 813-687-7200.

Regulator 25

It’s been 3 years since Regulator Marine redesigned its 25-foot center console, originally introduced to anglers in 2014. New for 2025 is a fresh look for the proven fishing machine.

What’s new are more rodholders, new and improved leaning post, upgraded helm technology and Regulator’s signature walkthrough tuna door. Powered by twin Yamaha F250s, the Regulator 25 has fantastic speed and fuel economy to go with a well-balanced ride. Other options include 18-foot outriggers, a trolling motor ready package and the Yamaha EX Autopliot with waypoint deceleration. Perfect setup for a family trip to the Bahamas or for that dream offshore fishing trip. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $244,995.

NEW FISHING GEAR

Rig Mate Pre-Tied Dropper Loop Rigs

Two blue spools of fishing line.
Rig Mate Pre-Tied Dropper Loop Rigs

This would be a nice gift for the buddy who invites you on a bottom fishing trip. It’s a leader wheel with pre-tied 5-inch dropper loops spaced at 18 inches. To make up chicken rigs in a matter of seconds, simply pull off the number of droppers you want, snip and add swivel to the top and sinker to the bottom.

Diagrams showing fishing loop rigs.

Thread each dropper up through the eye of your hook and over the bend, done. Number of droppers per Rig Mate spool depends on the pound-test: 40-pound test—a good class for making rigs for beeliners and lanes—includes 80 knots; 80-pound, suitable for red snapper, include 60 knots. The line is not fluorocarbon but a low-vis, abrasion-resistant copolymer. Priced at $39.99 U.S. per spool at rigmate.com.

Columbia’s new fully waterproof PFG Pro Sport deck boot has generous features anglers will love. Start with the oversized front and back loops to help pull on the boots, and three heel notches for easy removal even with slime, mud or other gunk. The Omni-Max sole is comfortable and adaptive to your foot, providing comfort on deck, dock or shore. The Pro Sport has coated neoprene uppers for chilly mornings and to repel water, slime, blood or anything else. The coating also helps resist scrapes, dings and fins. Two colors, Black and Ice Gray, are available, in men’s full sizes from 7 to 15. MSRP is $100. columbia.com

Shimano Ocea Jigger 2500LD

Large fishing reel for offshore fishing.
Shimano Ocea Jigger 2500LD fishing reel

Slow-pitch jigging in deep, lightly fished waters has the potential to stick some truly big fish. Think yellowfin tuna, magnum amberjacks, and groupers nearing triple digits. For those “out there” drops, Shimano now offers a lever drag, high-capacity edition specialty jig reel in the form of the new Ocea Jigger 2500 LD. It offers up to 44 pounds of drag and is engineered to handle it, with a rigid Hagane body and Infinity Drive which transfer winding power directly to cranking power with minimal side load pressure. Some cool little design hacks include increased cutout for thumbing and line control, and an optional light-line cam that’ll convert the drag curve to that of a 30-pound-class reel (yes, you can convert the Jigger into a bullet-proof trolling or kite-fishing reel). Two models are available, the MG with torquey 5.7:1 gearing and 42 inches per crank recovery, and the HG, optimized for speeding lures out of depths, with 6.2:1 gearing and 46-inch recovery. Line capacity (PowerPro) is 560/40, 470/50 or 340/65. MSRP is $599.99.
