During the dog days of summer there's nothing better than beating the heat by getting wet. A lot of Florida's bottom fishermen take the 90 degree hint to take the plunge and either go scalloping, lobstering or spear fishing. The key is first determining where and what you plan to spear. Juan Comendeiro of Miami thinks, “If you're diving in less than 40 feet you should be required to use a sling or pole spear.” He feels you should save your guns for ocean diving or deeper than 40 feet. Juan does a lot of free diving in the Bahamas where guns aren't allowed and enjoys the challenge. But, fishing in water with less visibility or deeper water requires a gun in most cases.
