Mako Boats' 17-foot Pro Skiff is rigged to fish at an easy-on-the-wallet price.
Mako Boats' Pro Skiff Series, which include 16- and 17-foot models, doesn't scrimp on the fishing features. Plus, value-conscious anglers can purchase the new center-console skiffs at used-boat prices. Highlighted below is the Pro 17 Skiff.
An Advanced Inverted (AIV) vee-hull design, wide beam and foam-filled construction provide a smooth, dry ride and stable platform. Because of the hull build, carrying larger loads is not a problem, even when powered by smaller-horsepower engines—as low as a 30-hp Mercury engine that sips from a 6.6-gallon fuel tank.
Inside, features include a forward-seat 8-gallon aerated baitwell, cushioned helm seat with built-in 85-quart cooler, and raised bow and stern fishing decks. The center console handles two vertical rod holders, navigation lights, below-console storage, and room for electronics and windshield.
Florida Sportsman editors first saw the boat at the 2012 Miami International Boats Show. The Pro Skiff series won the 2012 NMMA Innovation Award for Fishing Craft up to 24 feet at the show. Mako Boats' Larry L. Whiteley provided the photos below.
