"Jet-Powered Fishing Kayak" was the buzz phrase at ICAST 2025 in Orlando. We have to admit, it conjured up images of a kayak roaring across the water like in a Bond movie.

In actuality, the new FluxJet Kayak, winner of ICAST’s Best of Show award, is much more practical than that, and not quite so fast. FluxJet is the world’s first electric jet-driven fishing kayak, featuring a fully integrated jet drive that can reach a speed of more than 5 mph. It weighs 88 pounds, and has 960 minutes of maximum run time and 1,000 watts of power.

CEO and inventor Jason Woods said the idea behind the FluxJet was to make a simple kayak design that incorporates revolutionary technology. "What we wanted to do was create a kayak that goes back to looking like a kayak. We wanted it to be super clean … but we also want you to have the ability to drop in a battery and have power."

Think of the e-bike, Woods says. That market began with retrofitting bicycles with bulky hardware to give them power. But after decades of design advances, e-bikes, with power drives incorpoated in the frame, now pretty much just look like bikes. ”We wanted to build a boat where you didn’t even know there’s a motor,” Woods said. “Steve Jobs said the best technology is invisible."

The FluxJet is ready to rig for fishing. It’s 11 feet long, 34 inches wide and 12 inches high. It accepts 12-, 24-, 36-, 48- or 60-volt power sources. The kayak has an MSRP of $2,999.

  • FluxJet wasn’t the only head-turning kayak technology unveiled at ICAST. Here’s a look:
