Ideal Application: A very capable, all-around performer that is lighter weight for those that car-top or who need a lighter performance hull, in a package that makes it easier to launch at challenging locations. Affordability (for a Hobie) is made possible via a more basic outfitting of the interior – which allows users to add just the features they need for specific applications.
Notable stability in a boat that checks in under 70 pounds before rigging. The Compass echoes some lines of the Outback, with fewer features.
Overview: The Compass is the have-it-your-way kayak in the Hobie lineup. At 12' long, the Compass is a fast, very good tracking hull that can handle all waters in reasonable conditions, and the 34” width provides ample stand-up capability. A retractable rudder and built-in tracking skeg allow for precise maneuvering while paddling – or while under power from the acclaimed Mirage Drive 180 with Kick-Up Fins. The renowned Vantage CT seat is adjustable for angle of recline and height, and removable to use as a shore chair.
Brass inserts in the stern accept Hobie's mounting plate for a Power-Pole Micro shallow water anchor.
The interior is basic, fitted with a mesh-covered, bow storage area, dual H-Track accessory rails, starboard cupholder and a port steering handle, recessed carry handles and an 8” Twist-and-Seal Hatch in front of the seat. Two rod holders complement either side of the spacious rear tank, which is well appointed with tie downs and a bungee system. A multitude of Hobie upgrade options allow this platform to be customized to your exact fishing needs – so you only pay for what you want.
The spacious and extra wide deck provides comfort and security for even the most novice of kayakers and is outfitted with H-Track accessory mounts on each side.
Notable: Hobie offers more useful accessory solutions than any other kayak manufacturer, and most all can be installed on the Compass. Popular upgrades include a larger rectangular center hatch (which allows the included round center hatch to be installed in the bow); hookless map pockets added below the H-Tracks; an H-Bar standing support that folds down when not in use; H-Rails; Hobie Livewell or H-Crate; and drop-in rod holder extensions to name a few. At $2,349 – you get Mirage Drive 18O power and a platform that can be tailored to your exact needs.

A sharp turning radius makes this fishing kayak nimble in tight quarters, yet able to speed over open water in stealthy fashion.
The breathable mesh fabric is adjustable for comfort. Mounted at an ideal height for fishing, there's room for tackle storage underneath. Easily removable for use on shore.
Patented Kick-Up Fin Technology takes the worry out of kayaking in shallow, structure-filled waters by automatically retracting upon impact.
The forward and reversing MirageDrive 180 pedal propulsion system with Kick-Up Fins features legendary bioengineered performance.
The MirageDrive 180 with KickUp Turbo fins offers responsive propulsion, and a quick tug of a pull cord will reverse the fin array for backing up.
The Compass comes ready to fish from the factory with two built in rod holders.
The Kick-Up Rudder locks in to place when you need it and retracts on impact. A molded-in tracking keel keeps you on course, whether pedaling or paddling.
