About his photo, artist, writer and photographer Adrian Gray says, “The rocky intertidal fringe of Biscayne Bay's barrier islands including Soldier Key and Ragged Keys is a nursery ground for giant schools of mangrove snappers. While trying to photograph mangrove snapper in the shallows they all seem to have different personalities, some being elusive and others being territorial by quickly charging the camera before retreating back into the mangroves with their buddies. What I find amazing is the amount of living animals all living back in the dark safe haven of submerged mangrove roots.”
