Capt. Jonathan Earhart predicts fishing trends from Wabasso Beach to Boca Raton, including Vero Beach, Ft. Pierce, Stuart, West Palm Beach and Lake Worth

Action Spotter Podcast

February 2 - 4

Pompano fishing this week on the Treasure Coast has been very good. As usual, the flats and local beaches from Jupiter to Vero Beach are holding good numbers of pompano schools, as we would expect for this month. Pompano rigs with sand fleas on a surf rod or pompano jigs on a small spinning outfit will yield lots of action. We are seeing a good number of bluefish around this week inside the river and along the beaches as well. Shiny spoons with wire leaders will get all the bites you can handle. Some fish have been upwards of 20 pounds and over the past few trips! Shrimp fishing inside the river has been great for sheepshead, black drum, snapper, snook, redfish, pompano, flounder and even the occasional bonefish. We are seeing a few tarpon around further upriver but it has been hit or miss this week. Snook fishing has been slow to start the season off with cold water temps but they are around. Soaking baitfish for long periods will entice the bite but it won't be fast and furious like springtime snook bite typically is. Pilchards on 4/0 or 5/0 circle hooks are working well this week with medium-sized baitfish. Nearshore fishing has been great for Spanish mackerel from Jupiter up to Vero Cove. Find the boats, find the fish! Again, shiny lures with a fast retrieve will yield lots of action. Offshore fishing has been steady for kingfish, blackfin tuna, sailfish and the occasional mahi. Trolling in 90' to 180' has been best this week but that can change daily. Find a nice color change, weedline or hard current edge and troll around said area with ballyhoo and or drift live baits for good pelagic action. Most action has been south this week around Jupiter Inlet.
