Waterside Feasts

Restaurants not to miss on summer fishing trips.

Below is an excerpt from "The Sportsman's Kitchen" in the July, 2012 issue of Florida Sportsman:

Every region of our state has great waterside eateries where you can tie up your boat and grab a bite to eat or a cold beverage. And our team of Action Spotter field editors has furnished me with information about some of their favorite places.

The requirements for making our list were basic—access to fishing areas, easy and safe dockage and good food.

Northeast: Jim Sutton's first choice is the Conch House, just inside the St. Augustine Inlet, in Salt Run. Be sure to try the local favorites on the menu: Key Lime Pasta or a Minorcan Burger. The folks here will also cook your catch. Another favorite place, noted for fun dining and great food, is Cap's On The Water, just up the ICW from the Vilano Bridge.

East Central: Veteran outdoor writer Bill Sargent's recommendation of Grill's Seafood Deck and Tiki Bar at Port Canaveral was seconded by several of my angler buddies from the Space Coast. The Bahamian Fish Chowder or the Tahitian Tuna Poke will get you into an island frame of mind. Or try one of the fish sandwiches—the mahi-mahi version was a finalist in the Live With Regis and Kelly Show's Best Burger Contest a few years back...
