Florida's Number One Hunting Community

The increase in activity among Florida Sportsman's Hunting community isn't going unnoticed. Every year you see an increase in activity in the Florida Sportsman Hunting Forum, but this year is especially so. Hunting Moderator Kevin Brotz has done a good job of adding some special features such as: The Ten Foot Gator Club, another section meant to help hook up with other hunters, a section for the latest regulations and plans for a Member Get Together and BBQ Cookout, commented Publisher Blair Wickstrom. “All of these little things Kevin is doing coupled with a dedicated group of Florida Hunters are fueling the activity in the community.”

Huntmstr gives credit to the increase in activity to the rise in popularity of hunting, “hunting popularity is on the uprise. The number of alligator, turkey, and duck hunters have all nearly doubled in the last several years. Some of these demographics have more than doubled. Deer hunting has remained constant and even increased in some areas. More people, especially young novices who have never hunted before, are venturing into our world. There are some who are returning to the sport after a long departure. But most of the increase in hunting is coming from a younger crowd.

FS Member Shine thinks the difficulty in hunting may be the reason so many people have a need to share ideas, “hunting is a lot harder to be successful at than fishing. If I don't catch a half dozen fish on a trip – that is a disappointment. Shooting a deer in a half dozen sits would be considered success. I think hunters are always looking for the inside track on new ideas and doing what research they can to stack the deck. Internet is a pretty good place to do that. Hunting is probably underestimated as a sport and its economic impact. You can say that for fishing too. But with Florida Sportsman and how much focus they pay to hunting – Woods and Water, as I see it, has really become the hunting publication in the state and it may not make a lot of sense to try and compete with someone who cornered most of the market. Best you can do is split a part of it and that will not add up to a big number.

“Without question, the activity in the hunting forum isn't going unnoticed. We're planning exciting things for our hunting community, from the magazine to shows to our web,” says Wickstrom.
