Cobia 280 DC

Cobia 280 DC
The Cobia 280 DC is a great family fishing boat, in an aesthetically pleasing package.

For many years now, center consoles have ruled the waterways and for good reason: the open design allowed for maximum open fishing space and easy access around the decks while fighting a fish. Recently, however, there is a resurgence in popularity in the classic dual console configuration and for equally good reasons. More boaters are searching for a vessel that suits the needs of a family who likes to enjoy multiple activities on the water. Whether it's fishing, cruising, diving, water sports, or just relaxing on the sand bar that you enjoy (or all of the above) a dual console is ideally suited for just such a boater. The Cobia 280 is designed to satisfy the needs of exactly this kind of boating family.

As a cruising boat the Cobia 280 provides comfortable seating for a large group (up to 12) with plenty of shade both under the hard top as well as beneath an electric telescoping shade extension over the cockpit. The cockpit seating is fully convertible to open the work space up for fishing activity by folding seats away and stowing a removable table below deck. Forward seating can be converted to a casting deck as well. Under the hard top the use of space within the dual consoles is maximized, offering plenty of dry storage in front of the starboard helm while featuring an enclosed marine head (electric w/ macerator) to port with a sink and Corian counter top. Behind the helm, a galley station is standard with an optional refrigerator (12VDC), and electric grill. A 100-quart insulated drink cooler is located beneath the port lounge seat. Fresh and raw water wash-downs are both standard with a shower nozzle for rinsing off after a swim or dive. An optional anchor windlass with wireless remote is a handy option as well for civilized trips to the sand bar.

As a fishing platform, there is plenty of space in the cockpit to work around and access to the water for divers is simple via a transom boarding ladder. Optional outriggers make the 280 DC offshore trolling ready and as a reef/anchor fishing platform she is very stable, allowing multiple anglers to fish unobstructed while other guests socialize forward in the shade. Two cockpit insulated fish boxes (164-quart) are below deck and the transom corner (to port) accommodates a deep 25-gallon live well. The dual console design really seems to be catching on and with the versatility and conveniences they are providing to a new generation of boaters, they should stay popular for some time to come.
