Boat Review - Jupiter 43 SF

Boat Review - Jupiter 43 SF
Here is a good example of the picture of form and function meeting at 50-MPH.

Imagine a large inboard luxury sportfishing yacht and a racy 360-degree walk-around center console meeting in the middle of the road and becoming a single boat. You'd be imagining a Jupiter 43 SF to the letter and there is absolutely nothing “middle of the road” about her. As the company says “the design criteria was to blend the best fishing elements from a premium sportfish and a center console into a sportfisher worthy of the Jupiter name” and they have accomplished this goal handily.

Consider the pros and cons of each design. A large sportfish rig will allow you to fish on far rougher days, offer more comfortable amenities, and carry a greater number of guests. On the other hand, you'll need a larger crew to operate one, all of your fishing spread will be limited to the back of the boat, multiple hook ups must also be dealt with from the cockpit and can become complicated.

A center console is typically limited by rough weather and lighter on creature comforts, space for gear as well as for passengers. On the open boat however you can fish alone or with a light crew, the entire deck is open for business whether it's for deploying multiple baits 360-degrees around the boat or fighting multiple hooked fish from every corner of the deck. Why wouldn't it make perfect sense to combine all of those positive attributes into a single vessel, right?

The Jupiter 43 SF offers exactly that which I'm describing. For the comfort of a large boat experience they have designed a single level deck with a raised helm area that really offers the feeling of being on the bridge of a sportfish yacht. A beautiful Pro Curve Glass Wraparound Windshield provides the most panoramic view of the forward horizon you could ask for. The large helm face accommodates three 22-inch Multifunction Displays and features twin air conditioning vents facing the helmsman. The additional controls for trim, Yamaha, Helm Master, Bow Thruster, and the Seakeeper Gyro Stabilizer are all either hidden or incorporated into digital switching within your electronics. Inside of the console is a roomy air conditioned cabin that features a nicely styled seating area/twin berth along with an enclosed head, cedar lined closet, glass basin sink, microwave and a flat screen TV.

The cockpit lays out much like a traditional large sportfish design. Real Mezzanine seating above the cockpit deck is a perfect location to keep an eye on your spread or just relax. Under the Mezzanine Seats are matching insulated drink boxes, one with a chiller plate. The cockpit deck features an oversized access point to your bilge systems along with a compartment for the Diesel Generator as well as the Seakeeper. To the outward decks are matching 420-quart insulated fish holds. A massive 90-gallon live well is located within the transom. The forward deck features an additional 680-quart dry storage compartment along with a pair of insulated 192-quart boxes within the forward bench seating. A beautifully contoured double width Sun Lounge extends forward from the console. A day spent on this impressive fishing machine made it clear to me why so many people are falling out of love with their super yachts and diving into the 21st century design elements offered by this platform. The concept of serious fishing while enjoying luxurious amenities is easily realized on every inch of this boat.
