In this segment of Florida Sportsman it’s OK to lurk in the shadows. Both inshore and offshore gamefish follow other fish, marine animals and even wading anglers and boats being poled waiting for an easy meal. These gamefish will also use the shadows of man made and natural structure to hide and pounce on unsuspecting baitfish for easy meals.

Join Publisher Blair Wickstrom as he fishes the patch reefs within eyesight of Key West for grouper and snapper. These patch reefs provide numerous hidey-holes for nice size gamefish to hide in awaiting a tasty meal. The reefs are also a great place to fish when weather makes heading offshore a little dicey.

Also, you don’t want to miss a true “event” going on from Georgia south. Once or twice a year migrating manta rays move up and down the coast followed by tackle busting size cobia. Editors Jeff Weakley and David Conway are fortunate enough to take advantage of this opportunity. Don’t miss it.

On the Conservation Front: Karl Wickstrom reports that Sweden’s government has done what the US refuses to do…commission a study to determine what has more economic value, recreational or commercial fishing.
