In midsummer, the slightest dip in water temp can trigger the feeding instincts of many fish. Warm water holds less dissolved oxygen, and that makes fish sluggish. Successful anglers look for places and times when the water is cooler. This is holds true when Jeff Weakley and Capt. Bill Faulkner fish the warm waters of southwest Florida.

But the opposite holds true when fishing cooler months, when you’re looking for pockets of warm water. In either case, having a temperature gauge on your boat may be your best piece of electronic equipment.
