Chub Cay Member Guest Tournament Results
D.A. Sea wins Chub Cay Member Guest Tournament!
The Member Guest Tournament at Chub Cay is the oldest continuously held billfish
tournament in the Bahamas. Chub Cay owner Kaye Pearson welcomed members
and guests to the Island and the 37th edition of this prestigious event April 2 through the 5th.
“D.A. Sea,” a 65’ Paul Mann owned by Ed and Valerie Dunn of Grasonville, Maryland,
released one blue marlin on the first day of fishing and took the early lead in the event.
“Rebel,” a 61’ Viking owned by Steve Powell of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, took the lead on
the second day of fishing by releasing the first blue marlin of the day. Shortly thereafter
“Jack O Hearts,” a 60’ Jim Smith owned by Jack Dell of St. Augustine, Florida, released a
blue marlin, while Valerie Dunn and “D.A.Sea” added a white marlin release to their points total.
As the boats headed out for the third and last day of fishing everyone knew that it was
still a wide open tournament and that the final outcome would be decided that day. Long time
Chub Cay veteran captain George Dorste set the pace for the day with back to back releases
of a white marlin and a sailfish. Captain George was in command of the smallest boat in the fleet,
“Branch Office,” a 30’ Intrepid owned by veteran anglers Al and Janet Jones. Ed Dunn on “D.A.Sea”
countered with a sailfish release and Kaye Pearson’s “Showpiece” jumped into the fray with another
sailfish release. With less than an hour to go in the tournament, Captain David Cilk called in a blue marlin
hook up for “Reel Lax” owner Lester Petracca. During the course of the fight it became evident that this
was a fairly heavy fish and after a 45 minutes plus fight, the 400 pound plus blue marlin was
successfully released.
“D.A.Sea” was the winner of the tournament, followed closely by “Rebel” in second place and
“Jack O Hearts” in third place.
