2008 OLDEST CITY RED TROUT CLASSIC around the corner in October

The Redbone Series comes to St. Augustine.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida – Get ready to “Catch the Cure for Cystic Fibrosis” at the 7th annual Oldest City Red Trout Classic presented by PSS World Medical. The tournament will be Oct. 24-25 at the Kingfish Grill and Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor in St. Augustine. The classic is a catch and release tournament and is part of the Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series. Guides and anglers will team up to catch redfish and trout while raising money to help fund medical research for cystic fibrosis.

“The participants in this tournament are great sportsmen and always show tremendous support for our organization and our cause,” said Angela Costa, director of special events for the North Florida Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “This year’s tournament will have everything from great food to silent auctions and fishing to a formal reception.”

The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Casa Monica Hotel with the Captains’ Dinner featuring a cocktail reception, followed by dinner and a live and silent auction. On Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25, check-in and breakfast will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor in St. Augustine with the first lines cast at 7 a.m. The tournament will conclude at 3 p.m. on Saturday with an awards reception held dockside at the Kingfish Grill.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) is the leading organization devoted to curing and controlling cystic fibrosis (CF), a life shortening genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system causing serious complications.

The CFF is recognized as one of the most efficient charities in the country. The foundation received a coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal management from Charity Navigator, the largest charity evaluator in the United States. According to Charity Navigator, the CFF demonstrates excellence in fiscal responsibility and outperforms a majority of nonprofit organizations in America with respect to fiscal management. Nearly 90 cents on the dollar raised by the CFF is available to fund cystic fibrosis research and care programs. With the support of the CFF, there have been significant advances in CF research and care. The median survival age has improved from early childhood in the 1950s to 37 years today. After more than 50 years of service, the CFF remains committed to its core mission: to assure a means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. For more information, visit www.cff.org or call the North Florida CFF office at (904) 733-3560.
