With the possible exception of the Lower Florida Keys, redfish are definitely a statewide saltwater catch. Hot Spots include the big bays on the Gulf Coast, including Tampa Bay, Pine Island Sound, Estero Bay and Sarasota Bay.

On the Atlantic side, some of the best shallow water action in the world is available in the Banana River and Mosquito Lagoon, where it’s possible to sight-cast to landlocked reds as large as 40 pounds. Great sight fishing is also seasonal in Florida Bay, particularly around the Everglades National Park outpost of Flamingo. Huge bull reds have been surprising anglers in inlets around Jacksonville in recent years, as well as Gulf Coast passes.
