YELLOWFIN TUNA IN THE CORNER
By troutman561, 6/28/09
We got to our mark north of the Bank and began a north-northeast heading looking for birds... With a combination of it being too rough and some user error, we could not dial in our radar for the birds so we had to hope and pray we came up on a flock. After about 30 minutes of running and getting soaked, we found a big flock working a school. We got lines in the water and the first pass we got weeds on almost all the baits! As we were reeling in to check them we had a bunch of tuna busting the baits 20 feet behind the boat. I hooked a little blackfin tuna and while I was reeling that in, Mike's bait gets slammed. He was reeling in his black/red Islander/ hoola head ballyhoo combo. From the run we knew it was a nice fish. We got all the lines in and worked the boat so Mike could get the fish in as fast as possible so we didn't get sharked. After 10 minutes I see color as the fish did its death circle under the boat. Mike got it to the surface, it went under the boat and right as it popped out I stuck it in the head and pulled her in. It was very exciting to have a nice yellowfin tuna in the box so quickly. I have to take a second to thank Andy (flasher) for teaching us how to do this last summer, it is much appreciated…>>Forum Thread & More Photos
BOCA SKIFF OFFSHORE - SAIL, KINGS AND WRECK FISH
By DOLPHIN_HUNTER, 6/19/09
I fished today with Marvin (gulpfanatic1) and Ben again on the skiff. What a killer day. Got bait fairly easy and then headed offshore to drift. First hit five minutes into the drift and it's a tasty cero mackerel! A couple minutes later Marvin feels his bait getting nervous and comes tight with the fish. We think it's a king and then it jumps. Not a king but a sailfish! On a light tackle rod that I use for snook! 20# braid, 30# leader with a trace of wire. Marvin bowed as the fish jumped and we were all scared we wouldn't land the fish. We're on a skiff. But Marvin kept fighting and I maneuvered the boat. We get the fish close to the boat but he's doing the stay deep and circle. So Ben says "I'm going jump in the water!" Next thing I know Ben's swimming down next to the sail taking pictures. I slipped the gloves on, fish came up and I grabbed hold for the wild thrashing, and then we slid the fish into the boat to quickly get a picture before reviving and releasing. For being light tackle it was only a 15 minute fight and the fish was all lit up and swam away strong as we released him…

OUT OF THIS WORLD OFF JUPITER
By Kapt. Krusty, 6/14/09
We headed out of Jupiter Inlet and loaded the boat with live sardines. We decided to run ten miles offshore to see what was going on. We found some nice weed patches and some floating debris that looked promising, but only found little peanuts and saw one free jumping sail in 600 ft. We decided to cruise in for some bottom fishing. We set up on the edge but the current was ripping like 3.5 knots, so we went into 80 ft. The muttons and yellowtail were on as we boated about 10 total. The last 2 hours really turned on as my bait got slammed and almost spooled me. We gaffed a 30 pound black grouper 10 minutes later.
We got ourselves back and ready for the next drop and 20 minutes later we gaffed a 38 pound African Pompano. In all we ended up with the grouper, pompano, and 10 keeper muttons/yellowtail. We headed in for a cook out. Best bottom day out of Jupiter in a while for me. >>Forum Thread & More Photos
NO BANANAS!
By fishinfool8610, 6/07/09
My buddy threw a banana peel on the top of the boat and we were trolling around for about 2 hrs before I realized it... Once I threw it in the ocean we caught the 2nd place hoo within 25 minutes of the bananas departure.
