What's Biting Now
Florida Sportsman member: Capt. Mickey Locke We fished around 200 feet both days. The jacks wrecked us the first day but ended up with 3 nice fish and 18 groupers. The next day was a tough bite on the jacks for us but we ended up with 2 nice fish and limit of grouper.
Florida Sportsman Member: 85okhai I have never caught a pompano on a jig and don’t even know when the last time I even caught a pompano was. Third or fourth cast in hooked into something nice and what I thought was a pompano ended up being a nice sheepshead.
What kinds of fish might you find on the artificial reefs and wrecks around the Florida coast? That depends on season and latitude, to some extent. In midwinter, for instance, there’s a pretty big difference between the cold, nutrient-rich green water you’d encounter off Fernandina Beach, in far northeast Florida, and the warm, crystal clear Gulf Stream along the Florida Keys.
A bit of advice on buying a wetsuit in Florida. As we get in to our colder seasons here in Florida, wearing a wetsuit while diving is necessary as water temperatures drop about 10 to 15 degrees. There are many different factors that go into buying a wetsuit including the style of suit, the thickness, and color.
