HS FISHING CLUB GIRLS
By, KWLuis, 11/22/08

Report and pictures were sent to me by Annabelle Walker, a sophomore member of the Marathon High School Fishing Club and daughter of Capt. Scott Walker. I always encourage our club members to go out and take pictures...so here it goes on their behalf...oh they landed 6 sails.

Report: We fished with Captain Scott Walker, owner of Tailwalker Inc. We also had Captain Josh Ardis, of the Tailwalker, with us. &we had Mikey (I'll get his last name...), mate on the Tailwalker, and Jason Nordstorm, mate of the Tailwalker 2, with us.

Fished on the TAILWALKER 2 ; a 50 foot viking out of Hawks Cay resort. We kite fished with four and eight hole kites, three liters per kite. We also chummed with a long, short, and flat line on both sides. We also looked for sails and chummed them up individually. Chumming with long, short, and flat lines caught us four fish. Looking caught one, and kites caught one. We used gogs, threads, ballyhoos, and pilchards. Seas were 7ft at most. >>Forum Thread & More Photos

FAR GULF COBIA
By, SeaSquared, 11/15/08

John and I took a great group of guys from MN and TX to the far Gulf to target big cobia. We went approximately 50 miles out off Marathon. Conditions were perfect with unusually hot mid-November temperatures and slick calm Gulf waters. The hour and a half ride was well worth it. We hit two spots and accomplished our goal by catching 14 cobes in all. We kept just our limit of five and tagged and released the rest unharmed. All were in the 25 to 50-pound range. The guys also caught small gag grouper and goliath grouper. All fish were caught on live pinfish.

Kurt Klipstein, who's new nickname is "Cobia Kurt" caught this heffer 50-pounder. Kurt's comment at the end of the trip: "I knew nothing of deep sea fishing. I was shown how to reel in the 'big one' and I did! I had a blast!" Here he is with his cobe on the line. And here's Mark Stebbing with his fish on. Nice cobia coming to the boat. John always ready with the gaff. On our second spot, we had them swimming all around the boat and it looked to be about 30 of them in the school. The guys with their prizes. L-R: Mark "Sparky" Stebbing of Wyoming MN, Kurt Klipstein of New Hope MN, Scott Wiese of New Hope MN, Jeff Wangen of Marathon FL and Scott Menuey of Ft. Worth TX. >>Forum Thread & More Photos

BLACKPOINT
By, Zatara, 11/9/08

We started the day late after having late arrivals and having problems with the gas pump at Turkey Point. We left Turkey Point at about 9.30am and went due east off Cary's. We found some nice patches of weeds in about 390 ft to 420 ft and got 6 out 7 hits one was a nice cow in the 22 to 25 lbs the rest 8 to 12 lbs. Had to come back early so only fished for 3 hrs, left them bitting. The seas were nice, the wind was nice and refreshing. Great day wished I had a couple of hours more to fish. 6 Phins 1 Blackfin Here are the pictures. . >>Forum Thread & More Photos

OFFHSORE ACTION
By, Capt Dave Schugar, 11/3/08

We headed out for some sails in the afternoon around 1:00 and we got some great fresh ballys that we hair-hooked. We treied to replicate what we did last week, but the sails have disapeared. So we headed to the span for some cuda action and we hooked up immediately and caught one for scott's two sons and we had enough time to drop a couple of times on another wreck a few clicks away. First drop produced a nice 8 pound mutton and the second one was a small atlantic sparpnose shark. Well, we ran out of time and went in.

The next day we had a long day of getting cut-offs while looking for sails, but no sails. Big bummer for Scott and his sons. So after about five hours of trolling and only catching one kingfish we went dropping and got one mutton and a whole mess of sharks. We went to deeper wreck and got an AJ too. Not a very good day of fishing. THey didn't want to go yellowtailing or fishing shallow so we plugged the deep for what it had to offer.

The next day we went dropping for the whole day.We hit every wreck I know of from just West of Tennesse Light all the way down to Bahai Honda. We didn't catch anything till we got to an area off of Bahia Handa. We fished there for a few hours and limited out on kings, got a twenty pound mutton and an AJ. No sails, but everyone had a great time, as we did get worked on some of the wrecks by big fish only to have them eaten by sharks. Here are a couple of photos, its not much but its all I got. >>Forum Thread & More Photos
