LEGISLATIVE ISSUESComments on Florida legislation that impacts natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities should be addressed to the Governor and Cabinet, as well as local representatives to the Florida Legislature. Gov. Charlie Crist State Senators and Representatives comprising the Florida Legislature also keep local offices that are listed in local telephone directories and internet. In Tallahassee, address them like this: Sen. or Rep. (Name) FEDERALSALTWATER FISHINGTwo different federal councils are charged with developing fishery management plans for federal waters off Florida's two coasts. The development process is long, and your input anywhere along the line can be directed to whichever of the following is geographically appropriate: Gulf of Mexico Fishery Man. Council South Atlantic Fishery Man. Council Asst. Administrator, Fisheries Southeast Regional Administrator National Marine Fisheries Service LEGISLATIVE MATTERSIn many cases, it is the U.S. Congress that ultimately controls federal fishery policy. Every few years, Congress updates the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act. This legislation lays down the framework for the National Marine Fisheries Service and the regional councils. Comments on the Act and other fisheries-related legislation should be directed to your representatives in the U.S. Congress. Our two U.S. Senators, of course, represent the entire state.
