Locating several narrow creek mouths feeding a large bay has proven to be one of my son’s Terry David Lacoss and mine favorite redfish patterns when a flooding tide turns to fall. Redfish typically target these narrow creek mouths as baitfish schools rapidly depart the flooded grass flats, mangroves and ponds.
We like to cast what we refer to as "Hot Baits" to creek mouth reds. Our line of hot baits includes a variety of shallow running lures including the "Bomber Shallow-A", "Smithwick’s Suspending Super Rogue", the "Straight Jacket In-line Spinner Bait" and a variety of soft plastic jerk baits.
The key to our fishing success here is to have a good knowledge where ambush points are located and working these "Hot Baits" slowly past these ambush points during the first of the falling tide.
