Captain Joan Vernon will join the ranks of other hall-of-famers at this year’s Miami Boat Show’s Big Game Room Hall of Fame. Her induction will take place on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m.

Vernon’s efforts helped make common the use of circle hooks for billfish. In addition, she’s raised countless funds for studies on the use of circle hooks as a conservation tool to further reduce billfish mortality.

“Joan is also an energetic supporter of satellite tagging projects and the advancement of the marine sciences,” said The Billfish Foundation President Ellen Peel.

Vernon may be best known for her conservation efforts offshore, but she is also a longtime flyfishing and light-tackle fisher.

Following the induction, The Billfish Foundation will also recognize captains, anglers and mates from around the world who have volunteered and committed themselves to tag and release conservation.
