Snook Seasons Close in December
A quick reminder to all linesider fishermen—West Coasters can’t keep snook after Dec. 1, and East Coasters, no snook fillets after Dec. 15.
Melbourne, Stuart and Canaveral anglers better catch their last snook of the year—the closed season looms less than two weeks away. For that matter, any snook fishermen along the Atlantic coastal and inland waters better get their fill. After Dec. 15, the snook season doesn’t open until Feb.1 of the new year.
Gulf of Mexico, Everglades and Monroe County anglers already started targeting species besides the snook if they’re fishing for dinner. After Dec. 1, their season is finished until March 1.
Closed harvest seasons and size limits protect snook, a valuable fish species of Florida. Closed seasons are enacted based on the time snook are most vulnerable. Managers hope this year’s freshly implemented reduced slot limits help sustain and improve the fishery for the future. Size limits are 28 to 32 inches on the Atlantic side, 28 to 33 inches in Gulf, Everglades National Park and Monroe County waters.
