Freshwater Kid’s Fishing Tournament in Miami
Take your kids fishing to South Florida’s largest kid’s tournament, no rod or reel required.
The Capt. Bob Lewis Kids Fishing Challenge is coming Saturday, Nov. 3, to Tropical Park in Miami. Tropical Park’s East Lake is the site where kids aged 5 to 14 can ‘catch ‘em up’ using the baits provided—bread balls and wigglers. Rods and reels will be provided for children who do not bring their own, and participants keep them at the end of the day.
The tournament is based on who catches and releases the most fish in a two-hour period. The last event winner had 23 releases in just a few hours, said Jose Fonseca, President of Capt. Bob Lewis fishing events. This annual event invites kids and their parents to experience the joys of fishing. Hundreds of participants come each year. And recognition is always given to numerous anglers, in different age categories, for notable catches. Unfortunately, rough weather has forced postponement of the event in recent years.
Registration begins at 8 a.m., with lines in at 9 a.m. Lines come out at 11 a.m., followed by lunch for the participants and parent/guardian. For those anglers lucky enough to catch the most fish, the award ceremony will start at noon. East Lake at Tropical Park is located at 7900 SW 40th Street in Miami. The Youth Fishing Foundation, along with other related organizations, will also attend the event. For more information contact Ernie Portuondo at 305-336-8874 or www.billfishchallenge.com.
