Anglers Urged to Comment on Everglades Plan
Everglades National Park planners to hold final public meeting in Naples.
Due to the outpouring of public comment and packed houses at each of the previous public meetings on the Everglades General Management Plan (GMP), the National Park Service and Everglades National Park (ENP) has added an additional and final public meeting for anglers to comment on proposed GMP draft alternatives for the management of waterways of ENP for the next 20 years.
Anglers are up in arms over drastic, unacceptable management alternatives proposed by park planners, such as large zones closed to motorboating in the Everglades backcountry and making all Park waters less than three feet deep off-limits to combustion motor use, in favor of pole-and-troll propulsion only.
The meeting takes place Wednesday, July 11, in Naples at the Collier County campus of Edison College, Building J, rooms 103 and 104 at 5:30 p.m.
ENP Superintendent Dan Kimball will give an overview presentation at 6:00 p.m. after which the public is invited to make comment. The official public comment period ends on July 31. For more information on the plan, and to send written comment, visit http://parkplanning.nps.gov.
