Anglers Break Sailfish Fly Record
54 Releases Recorded off Guatemala.
28 fly-caught Pacific sailfish was the per-boat-day record, but according to a South Fishing Inc. press release, Capt. Jim Turner and Herbert Rosell nearly doubled the number. Fishing out of the Quinta Pez Vela hotel, in Ixtapa, Guatemala, the duo, turned loose 54 fish using tackle that conforms to IGFA regulations.
They were fishing aboard Turner’s 37-foot Merritt, Release, captained by Capt. Chris Sheeder, with mates Nico and Ricardo.
“Congratulations to Jim, Liz, Capt. Chris, mates Nico and Ricardo, the great mates who made the magic happen,” said Rosell. “Thank you for sharing this incredible day with me,” he added.
