Wonder Woman to the Rescue
Miami angler rolls up her sleeves, helps skipper score his 20,000th sailfish release.
Central America skipper Ron Hamlin reached a milestone recently. The captain, who first started fishing in 1959 and has spent the past 35 years pursuing sails, recorded his 20,000 th release in late December.
That feat, according to Hamlin, was made partly possible by Miami angler Joan Vernon, a lady he refers to as “Wonder Woman.” Between December 29 and 31, Vernon single-handedly went 93 for 147 sailfish hookups using 12-pound line.
